The North of England is buzzing with tech innovation and entrepreneurship

Last week saw two important events recognising the buzzing tech scene in the North of England: The Northern Tech Awards and The Duke of York’s visit to the Tech Hub Manchester

Quintessential Finance Group, IESA, ResponseTap, Missguided, Nomad and On the Beach have all walked away with awards at the GP Bullhound Northern Tech Awards, which recognises the leading technology companies in the North. The invitation-only event took place at The Lowry Hotel in Manchester, a growing hub in the internet sector and home to a large number of successful technology companies.

The event, hosted by David Rowan Editor of WIRED magazine, was attended by a select group of 200 CEOs, entrepreneurs, investors and journalists. The final ranking of top 50 companies can be seen here and the list of Rising Stars here.

“The Northern Tech Awards are a celebration of the boundless energy and growing ambitions of tech entrepreneurs in the North. As an industry we have to be careful not to be too London-centric and these awards shine a light on the achievements of businesses across the region” said Hugh Campbell, Managing Partner at GP Bullhound. “We were blown away by the talent and ground-breaking innovation of the companies who won each category.”

GP Bullhound’s commitment to the region is further illustrated by the opening of a new office in Manchester, headed up by GP Bullhound Founder and Managing Partner Hugh Campbell, joined by Adam Rudd from Gresham Private Equity and AO.com.

In conjunction with the new office opening, GP Bullhound hosted a lunch and event at Tech Hub Manchester featuring company presentations and discussions on the challenges faced by northern Tech companies. The event was attended by the Duke of York who was given a tour of Tech Hub in the city’s Northern Quarter and participated in a discussion of the future of technology businesses in the North West and Manchester.
